The Philadelphia Freedoms And World Team Tennis: It’s So Crazy It Just Might Work
World Team Tennis is kind of like the Arena Football of the tennis world, only with lots more Billie Jean King (she’s the league commissioner) and Elton John (he hangs out, wrote the theme song for the original Philadelphia Freedeoms back in 1975; maybe you’ve heard it). Anyway, the WTT ’09 season starts tomorrow, and the new and improved Philadelphia Freedoms — featuring Andre Agassi, Venus Williams and more — will be holding it down and repping Philly on the tough, tough courts of… The King of Prussia Mall. OK, we can stop pretending this is a real sport now. Phew. But think of it: The Philadelphia Soul didn’t play a real sport, and they basically ruled at life (until their entire dogshit league went under). So Philly definitely has a precedent in winning at non-real sports. Plus, on Monday, our team will go up against the team that has Anna Kournikova; later in July (the WTT is only one month long), the Freedoms will also take on art collector John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova. At the mall. At the King of Prussia Mall. They’ll be playing tennis. At the mall.

I don’t know where they’re setting up, but I imagine it being on the top level of a parking lot, which sounds miserable.

The Philadelphia Freedoms court will be situated on the parking lot of The Court in front of Macys and Bloomingdales, directly on Route 202-giving many families and King of Prussia shoppers the chance to experience world-class tennis right in their backyard.

I am a nationally ranked tournament tennis player. I find this shit show unwatchable. I have turned down tickets and the opportunity to attend other related events.
It is perfect for a mall parking lot. I will continue to boycott this clown act until Anna Kornakova agrees to play in lingerie
