Does anyone else get a borderline too-eager/near-desperate vibe from Philadelphia in this ad?

Yeah, the print ads worked well, but something about Nutter blowing me a kiss sorta makes me want to pack my bags and get as far away from this place as I can.

Blue Light, I don’t think it would befit the tourism office *not* to be eager, right? It’s sort of the name of the game!

True. But if Nutter tries to send over a drink, I’m going to have to politely refuse.

Oh, right…cuz Nutter put casinos in our pants or something bad…I forgot.

I will never understand why I seem to see so much of this campaign — indeed, Philly tourism campaigns stringing back to Patti Labelle and “Get to Know Us” — running in the Philadelphia area when the money could be spent on buys and placements in, you know, other cities with actual potential visitors. I’m all for shots in the arm/ego boosts and knowing how we’re presenting ourselves to the world, but on that front how much should we be going beyond the “With Love” banners on Broad Street?
Anyone else sense this? Anyone else care to factually rebut?

Adam, a friend at the GPTMC told me that this specific campaign is targeted towards suburbanites and rural folk IN THE REGION to get them to stay in Philadelphia overnight or for a few days rather than going to Orlando or the shore. When you see it on tv or in the papers inside the city, know that it is also going to the millions in South Jersey, the Lehigh Valley, etc. who don’t stay in the city any longer than it takes to attend a Phillies game or shitty concert.
