Captain Freeshit: Win Tickets To See The Church At The Trocadero

heydayAt the risk of going all Middle-Aged White Male Record Nerd That Nobody Cares About on you, we have to admit, we started listening to The Church again out of the blue recently, and we love them. The Church, of course, formed in 1980 in Australia and have pretty much done everything that U2, for instance, hasn’t. They’ve stayed mostly true to a very time-specific, genre-specific sound (in this case, a sort of paisley underground swirl), have had barely any hits (save for “Under The Milky Way,” voted by the people of Australia to be the best Australian song of the last 21 years), and have never once attempted to save the world. And yeah, of course, the aforementioned “Under The Milky Way” is a fantastic, moody piece of work, but lately, we’ve been going back to the Church’s 1986 LP, Heyday, and revelling in its paisley powers. Dig:

We bring it up because, as you may know, The Church is playing the Trocadero tomorrow night, and we’ve got some tickets we wanna lay on you, so you can pick up our Weird Old Record Nerd vibration and know that it is we who shall inherit the Earth. To enter to win, email ihopeiwin[at]philebrity[dot]com with “THE CHURCH” in the subject header. You’ll automatically be subscribed to the forthcoming new Philebrity Reader weekly newsletter and win chances for other exclusive free stuff. Now go get me my Beatle boots and my fuzzy John Phillips hat.

    @Timo:
    Apparently, the bagpipes were actually an Ebow:

    Then one of the best ebow solos, ever. I just looked up AC/DC and Big Country, they also used an ebow. Thanks for the tip.
