Philly Cable Party: Chuck Your Comcast Box Into The Delaware River
Help is on the way for all of us stuck perpetually under the thumb of Comcast. Sort of, anyway, as Verizon wages an all-out war against Comcast here on their home turf. Multiple eyewitness reports of Verizon trucks running cables in Fishtown and Port Richmond sparked rumors that Verizon FiOS may soon be available to Philadelphians. Back in February, City Council approved a 15 year deal with the communications revolutionaries to bring their services to Philly by the end of this year. If that didn’t piss Comcast off, then wait til’ Verizon goes and asks them to pull their ads. This is it, people: The battle for our independence from years of tyranny and oppression is finally upon us. Unless, of course, Verizon turns out to be every bit as much a gang of dicks as Comcast is. Who knows what tricks Comcast has up their sleeves, but we’ll be ready to fight for a better…er uh-different tomorrow. In the words of revolutionary Thomas Paine, “If there must be trouble, let it be in my day so thay my child may have…FiOS.”

When Verizon and Comcast fight. We win. Yay! Hopefully I can get lower Internet by the time that six months special runs out…

Until Verizon can wrestle rights to televise the Flyers from Comcasts’ hands, there’s still no light at the end of the tunnel.
And even more frustrating is the difference in quality of onDemand between the two: Comcast has may more quality material to offer.
My dad has FiOS and I have Comcast. The only thing he wins in is internet speed and not having to worry about Comcast throttling his bit torrenting (not that he bit torrents anyway).

…and what about FiOS only laying fiber in areas where household income is well above the poverty line? who wins there?

Seems fairly logical to lay premium (read: optional) services in areas where people can pay for it.

All info I’ve read indicates that FiOS offers CSN and CSN-HD. (yes, I know that satellite does not have CSN.)
Is there something new about the city rollout that I haven’t seen?

maybe a cable box recycling party? throwing them into the river doesnt sound very environmentally friendly to me. pretty douchey in the recent “tea party” way of doing things.

A douchey tea party? I think you’re using the wrong bag for tea.
