Dr. Tiller’s Spirit May Live On Here, But Somehow, We Doubt Yesterday Was “Free Abortion Day” In Philly

We’ve been trying to get to the bottom of this post on Wonkette yesterday proclaiming that Philadelphia Women’s Center was providing free abortions in honor of slain practitioner Dr. George Tiller. That, of course, led us to the rumor’s source, IAmDrTiller.com, who tweeted the news. We rang up the Philadelphia Women’s Center for info and a quote, but so far, no calls back. And maybe we don’t even deserve to know, really. But this much is for sure: Dr. Tiller does live on in Philly, at least in some abstract “I am Michael Jordan” kind of way.

hi, I don’t work at the clinic but I know people who do and I can clarify some things.

PWC did not charge for abortions yesterday, but because of Pennsylvania’s mandatory 24-hour waiting period for women seeking abortions all of the patients seen yesterday already had their appointments scheduled well in advance. women could not walk in off the street to get abortions, and this was not advertised.

women were asked to donate some of the money they would have used to pay for their abortions to a memorial fund for Dr. Tiller and from what I heard, most of them did.

awe, free abortions that’s nice. I’m feeling all warm and tingly inside. I’m sure everyone’s happy with that, well almost everybody
