This Weekend: Options Be Damned!

ascb2008FRIDAY:
>>> You know what I like about tonight? The fact that there’s no option paralysis whatsoever. No siree, this Friday takes it eaaaasy. Even if you RSVP’d for Sunset (see post below) or are going to see Orville Robertson’s NYC Street Corners @ UArts, that’s all stuff that’s on the early side, events that are well over by, say 10PM or so. And there may be nothing as magical as a Friday night that opens wide into nothingness before the news is even on. Maybe you’ll invite people over to listen to records. Maybe you’ll go see whatever the last movie is that’s playing somewhere. Maybe you’ll get real with MarioKart and Mr. Softee. All that shit is killer and better than any option you will ever read on this website.
>>> But if you must drag yourself out, may we recommend Part Deux of Hoots & Hellmouth‘s two-night record release jam at Johnny Brenda’s? Or maybe DJ Shawn Ryan at Apothecary? Or drinks on the balcony of Bar XIX in the Bellevue? The view is exquisite.

SATURDAY:
>>> The annual Art Star Craft Bazaar returns to Penn’s Landing Saturday and Sunday, and not only is the list of participating vendors impressive, so too is the two day’s worth of music the ladies have put together. But more about that in a moment. Either way, weather permitting, get into this.
>>> Hidden City Philadelphia is a month-long festival of sorts that seeks to put performing and visual art in lost little corners of the city. We’ll have more on this next week, but it begins in earnest this weekend. Peep the schedule and locales here.
>>> A Camp is that band with the girl from The Cardigans that you should listen to because The Concretes broke up and, sadly, nobody else is really scratching that delicious modern female-led sophisti-pop itch right now, save for God Help The Girl (whom we’ll also have some stuff about on the site next week). They play at JB’s. Also notable: Young Love, who may be the neon nation’s last gasp to really do the whole MTV thing, is at North Star, and the US Air Guitar Championships is at the Khyber. Jason The Doorman, our heart goes out to you for this one, man.

SUNDAY:
>>> Sunday afternoon’s music lineup at the Art Star thing mentioned above is truly deece: Photon Band, Like A Fox, North Lawrence Midnight Singers, The Mural & The Mint, to name a few. Full lineup here.
>>> To our freaky folky raga groovy friends: Paul Metzger is playing straight up HEAD MUSIC at Brickbat Books at 8PM. To everybody else: The Mexican beer called Sol. Trust us.
