Film Sweat: A Message To You Rudo
RECOMMENDED: If you ask us, movies like I’m Gonna Explode and Y Tu Mama Tambien have done more in the last few years to expose Mexico as a vibrant, crazy and attractive place than any tourism board ever could. So the fact that Rudo Y Cursi brings Y Tu Mama‘s Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna and Carlos Cuaron back together is pretty much enough to win our nine bucks. Rudo Y Cursi tells the story of two brothers who came up dirt poor, only to be torn apart by dreams of fame of fortune — all of which comes to a head in one fateful soccer match. Might not be as sexy as Y Tu Mama, but it’s bound to exude that new, elusive Mexican cool.
ALSO NEW IN THEATERS THIS WEEK: Up, Disney/Pixar’s new tale of a cranky old man who can’t be left alone even when he affixes helium balloons to his house and begins flying over the Earth, at home; Drag Me To Hell, director Sam Raimi‘s new spookifier starring Justin Long, aka The Mac Guy; Enlighten Up, a seemingly well-meaning but very possibly annoying-as-hell documentary that follows one man’s journey from being a not-doing-yoga guy to a guy whose life is totally transformed by the stuff; and Under The Sea, a new IMAX jawn that is just a bunch of undersea ooh-ahh footage. Ooh! Ahh!
