Academy Of Natural Sciences Raises Admission Prices, But Go Anyway… For The Dioramas

Twooooooo dolllarrrssssss!

On June 1, The Academy Of Natural Sciences will raise its admission prices by $2 for both adults and kids, but look at it this way: $12 is worth every penny to see all 37 of what we believe to be a largely unsung art form: Dioramas. Sure, their educational value may be debatable, but as an old stylistic/intellectual conceit, you really can’t do better. The dioramas in the ANS are from the golden age of diorama-building — the 1920s and 1930s — and depict an amazing array of animals: Bison, musk-ox, bears, mountain sheep, moose lion, zebra, opaki, gorilla and antelope, and Asian animals, including tiger, kiang (pictured), panda and yak — plus a bunch of birdy dioramas. And they are all weird and awesome. So cough it up and go anyway. We’re talking about dioramas, people.

While the Academy of Natural Sciences dioramas are nice, they are nothing compared to the Living Bible Museum in Ohio.

    GOD DIORAMAS, PEOPLE!

Jesus even makes some unscheduled Old Testament appearances. It’s awesome.
