Scope This Mixtape: Death’s Headquarters

photo-6778

Tomorrow night, our good buddy Dryw Scully begins his new, bi-weekly DJ gig at 700 (Second & Fairmount), called “Death’s Headquarters,” which takes its name from the immortal words of Sun Ra. Unlike Dryw’s other DJ outings at 700 over the last decade, which focused on only the newest indie music, DHQ has a folkier, more mystical vibe, actually kind of perfect for this overcast day. Above, stream Dryw’s epic 90-minute-plus mix. (You know how to use a tabbed browser, right?) Like the sign says, “Death’s Headquarters” takes place on second and fourth Tuesdays. (It alternates with our own Philebrity Salon, also at 700.) After the jump, a full track listing.

  2. Blatz Says:

Boring playlist, Baws, just like most Phily DJs & the Sun Ra “Pathways to Unknown Worlds” show at the ICA. What a hyped-up utter disappointment.
2 fresh videos, sure, but no amazing Arkestra costumes, no signature instruments, no real substance, not much of nuthin at all. Free but a waste of time going over to UPenn, really.
ICA desperately needs a new something/someone with their whole quality control. That exhibit could have EASILY been bad ass.
Instead, it was almost completely worthless.
    Reform ICA now.

Yeah, I was afraid it might be like that. Haven’t seen the show yet but still will. Thanks for the heads up anyway.

will second the “ICA sun ra thing way underwhelming”. first step would have to actually have 5x as much material. i wanna feel like i’m a germantown townhouse full of weed and maracas.
