Readers Write: Make Our Day And Bring Us Cameraphone Pics Of Firemen On Segways
Okay something that makes no sense to me: firefighters on Segways. I saw two men in Phila firefighter uniforms (not fire gear) cruising down market on Segways. Police I understand. But firefighters??? Have u seen this?
We have not, but apparently this is a real thing — at least in Sweden, if the video at right is anything to go by. But we need to see some Philly firefighters in Segway-firefighting-action. We must. So if you see one, snap a pic and send it in. We may have the germ of a Backdraft sequel here.

Besides actual firefighting, Philly FD provides EMS services. If you’ve been to a parade in Philadelphia in the past, I dunno, 5 years, you’d see Philadelphia fire and EMS have used the Segways to provide a faster delivery of emergency medical aid services amongst crowds of Mummer watchers or what have you.
Wouldn’t be surpised if the FD is experimenting with Segway folks on mobile so they don’t have to send a whole rig out to deal with someone collapsing from heat exhaustion this summer.
