Psychedelic Recycling Trucks, We Think We Love You
So tomorrow is Earth Day, doncha know, and as part of the festivities, Mayor Nutter will be rolling out ten new recycling trucks, all bearing fresh graphic wraps designed by Desiree’ Bender and students from Philly Mural Arts Program’s (MAP) after school Big Picture Program. And as you can see, they are pretty awesome, and could even lead us to believe that Philly actually recycles its recycling and doesn’t just dump it somewhere no-one will notice, like they used to back in the day. The big ceremony will be held tomorrow at 2PM in LOVE Park, although, if the vibe of these jawns is anything to go by, it should have been yesterday.

hopefully they pass HB 961…or the grant programs that pay for recycling will disappear and most PA municipalities will just dump it somewhere no one will notice, like they used to back in the day…

Please stop spreading the myth that recyclables don’t get recycled. All recyclables go to Blue Mountain Recycling, down on Gray’s Ferry in South Philly. Go see it for yourselves- but more importantly, stop suggesting that it doesn’t get recycled. People hear that once and it’s all the excuse they need to not participate.

One can only see their recycling bin get dumped into the trash truck so many times before getting disillusioned.
That said, I keep recycling in the hope that maybe 1/2 of it makes it where it’s supposed to go.

If you actually see that happen, you have to contact the Streets Dept. That can’t happen. Not in 2009.

Except for this magical looking recycling trucks- all recycling trucks and trash trucks are IDENTICAL! So if you think you’re seeing your recyclables go in the trash, you might be- gasp- wrong!
If you do REALLY see it- report that shit. Call 311 so it gets tracked by Phillystat and the Streets Commissioner has to answer to the Managing Director, the Deputy Mayor and even the Mayor himself.
But- it doesn’t happen as often as the myth would suggest.
