Dept. Of New Philebrity Theme Songs: Chain & The Gang, “Trash Talk”
Chain & The Gang is the new band from Ian Svenonius, who over the years has been everything from “The Sassiest Boy In America” to the singer in The Make-Up and lots of other bands and the host of Vice TV’s Soft Focus. His new band, however, is already one of our favorite things he’s already done, and not just because of their crazy anti-liberty rhetoric on the back cover of their debut album, Down With Liberty… Up With Chains! And in fact, even though we weren’t really looking for one — “Mirage People” by The Capitol Years was suiting us just fine, thank you — track three on the album might be the new Philebrity theme song. (You know, for that awesome sitcom we have where we all live in the same house and play pop songs on the beach.) It’s called “Trash Talk,” and it goes a little something like this:
TRASH TALK
Yeah, first they did it in the magazines
Now they do it ELECTRONICALLY
[...]TRASH TALK
I went into the bathroom to see what the people think
Let me tell you: IT STINKS
Judged by a jury of one’s peers
Don’t worry, dear, it’s just trash that you hear
TRASH TALK
And so on.
Ahem. Chain & The Gang plays with Calvin Johnson and Mahjongg next Monday at The Barbary (7PM, all ages). Guess who’s stoked.
