Brian Tierney Enters “Brokedick Reverse Nixon” Phase
Hey, remember when we were telling you about the time Brian Tierney caught one of the bank stooges taping him in a meeting and was all like, “DUDE.” As it turns out, the Tierney Bug might just be the most notable secret microphone in recent Philly history, since the John Street FBI Bug, even. Because when suits at CIT Financial ‘fessed that yes, one of their stooges taped but it was a one-time thing, honest, Boss Tierney’s spidey sense started tingling, and now he’s calling for an investigation to find out if there were more secret tapings. But to do so, he’s gotta get approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to use newspaper funds to hire a firm to conduct said investigation. And isn’t that a sticky situation. On the upshot, though, it could be, so so strangely, good PR for Tierney if there is indeed fire where he smells smoke. Consider the fate of Street when it was revealed the FBI was snooping on him — it literally won him his second term election, over Sam Katz — who, it should be noted, was campaign-managed by Tierney himself. So it’s not like this is a lesson that Ye Olde Pentagramme of Doome does not know. Philadelphia — The City That Loves You Bugged.
