There’s Room For All Of Us In The Book Of Faces: Lurking In The Officer Thrasher Facebook Support Group
As you may know by know, Officer William Thrasher (pictured) is the Philadelphia police officer who was abruptly sent to desk duty after he allegedly used racial epithets and voiced lots of things you never want to hear an officer of the law say, when he took Temple University journalism student Shannon McDonald along for a routine ride-along through North Philly recently. Thrasher is now the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation by the Philly PD, and currently is having the unique experience of having his name (at least temporarily) associated with a racist Philly cop stereotype that has persisted in this town for decades, probably because in many (but certainly not all) cases, it’s often true. Which is a bummer eight ways to Sunday. But everyone’s got friends, and in the meantime, while the investigation is pending, members of Thrasher’s immediate family have started up the “Support Officer Thrasher” Facebook group. Exactly what kind of real, actual support a Facebook group could offer a Philly cop accused of being a self-righteous, ignorant racist is somewhat beyond us, but no matter: As of this writing, the group has more than 300 members. Some of whom, we can safely gather from their Wall posts, probably share Thrasher’s alleged worldview:
If the article’s direction stayed towards the important issue at hand which is murder then the 3 people who handled it might of had an actual story to be proud of publishing. U’ll b iight cause their attack is a bunch of bs n it wont hold
Yo thrasher it’s your brother from the underground spd… we got ur back bro, your a great cop that only does good every time we see you around. the truth will prevail.
Just another scumbag liberal POS just trying to make a name for herself. That plan will backfire on her, though. She just opened herself and her school up to some serious legal action. She’ll lose all of her credibility before she even gets a job.
Ahem. Nothing like shooting the messenger. And because we can definitely question the intelligence of some of the group’s members, allow us to clarify: We don’t mean that literally.
