Stone of Destiny tells the true story of young Ian Hamilton, who along with some other Scottish Nationalist activists on Christmas 1950, stole back Scotland’s symbolic “Stone of Destiny” from Westminster Abbey. This historical event was a landmark event for Scottish pride, and was said to have turned the tide in Scottish-English relations forever. In this almost breezy retelling, though, Charlie Cox stars as Hamilton, and the film plays the events more like a caper. Which, in this case, isn’t such a bad thing. On a dreary day like this, we could all use a little Scottish pride.
