Film Fest Picks: GS Wonderland

GS Wonderland, which stars Chiaki Kuriyama (Kill Bill Vol.1), details the Beatles-inspired GS (Group Sounds) phenomenon that took hold of Japan in the 1960s. Through the eyes of pop group “The Tightsmen,” in which Kuriyama plays the role of a young boy, we see the rise and fall of the group’s incredible popularity — a story similar to many bands of the time period. The soundtrack, comprising new songs written by musicians of the GS era, effectively sets the scene, as do the costumes and shots of crazed female fans. This one’s good bet for any music fan, really, unless you are a music fan who cannot read. Because there are subtitles.
