Real Talk: Phosphorescent Was One Of The Best Bands We Have Seen In Years. YEARS.
When we mentioned Saturday night’s Phosphorescent show as one of the standout shows of the weekend in Weekend Picks on Friday, we had no idea that the actual show was going to reduce us to madly grinning, newly minted megafans, people who finally “understood” what people who’ve followed Phish and the Grateful Dead around for years “knew,” to the eventual detriment of everything else relating to them being a productive part of, you know, human society. And the video above doesn’t even do it justice. If live music is, as musicians have said over and again throughout time, all about catching The Vibe, that elusive wisp of telepathy between performer and audience, Phosphorescent totally showed up on Saturday and grabbed that fucker by the throat and refused to let go. Splitting the set between a grip of original tunes and Willie Nelson covers, the Brooklyn band wound down their U.S. tour to a crowd that alternately swayed, held hands on hearts, bantered back and forth with the group, and hollered like they’d finally been set free. If we had our way, every Saturday night ever would have been just like this one. We cannot see these guys again soon enough. If you haven’t yet, dig in on To Willie, like so:
