Fun Facts About Last Night’s Cinefest ’09 Opening Night Party
· The DJ in the Grand Ballroom at XIX played “Jump Around” by House of Pain; we also saw a woman in her 40s play righteous air guitar to “Super Freak” while simultaneously conjuring Elaine Bennis. We credit the latter to the ubiquity of Guitar Hero, but we loved it anyway.
· For anybody who missed out on the opening night feature, (500) Days Of Summer, Margate-born and bred screenwriter Scott Neustadter told us the film will go into limited, then wider, release in mid-May. If crowd reaction was anything to go by, it’ll probably play in “Festival Faves” in the fest’s last days as well.
· Character actor William Forsythe was probably the most famous person in the room.
· Dan Gross and Scott Johnston did not want to say hi.
· The free vodka was the newest spirit from Philadelphia Distilling, the folks who bring you Bluecoat Gin. It’s called Penn 1681, and we only mention it because the bottle looks awesome and they ran out of it.
· “The smoking deck” was actually a non-smoking area, but everybody smoked there anyway, staring out at a fog-incased city in the night, as we all pondered the very premise that this website was built on: Philly doesn’t really “do” fame.

William Forsythe has worked with the Cohen brothers, and also, um, Rob Zombie, so that ain’t too shabby.

Penn 1681 is good, though actually has been out since before than Phil Distill rolled out their Absinthe. That bottle may look awesome; but it’s a pain in the ass to store. Does not fit in my liquor cabinet so occupies a space of nuisance on my dishwasher.

Besides Hollywood, no city does fame.
William Forsythe was amazing as a cop-killing, crack addicted, overweight psycho in the Steven Seagal classic “Out For Justice”.

DJ A.K. was great last night! Also, the 007 drink was so popular the vodka ran out quickly.
