PA WeedWatch: Rendell B(l)unts, Pennsyltucky GOPs Say “Over My Increasingly Un-Re-Electable Body”
It looks like PA State Rep. Mark Cohen may have spoken too soon: After letting it slip last week that he’d like to get a medical marijuana bill introduced in front of the PA House ASAP, other state pols are treating the prospect as you might expect — either deferring altogether, or standing on a soapbox and acting like weed is a crime and not a natural birthright that can seriously cure everything. Ahem. Erik Arneson, spokesman for the majority leader of the Republican-controlled Senate, negged the bill altogether, using the old “WE HAVE SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO THAN WEED” lie, which straights always use when they think one toke might finally make them come out of the closet. However, Gov. Ed Rendell, is saying he’s not saying a word until he actually gets a look at a bill, which indicates we might see one after all. And here’s another thought: A PA Weed Bill — especially one that allowed for farmers to grow — could really get legs in Pennsyltucky, where there’s obviously a strong agrarian tradition and we bet, we just bet, that lots of folks out there in the woods have ancestors who grew the stuff. Back to the land, Pennsylvania. In the words of the immortal Evan Dando, if it comes out of the dirt, then tell me, who could it hurt?

As someone who grew up in Pennsyltucky, and still has massive amounts of family out there, there are few things that are loved more out there than farmers & weed. Lots of aging hippies and rednecks who would like nothing more to live off the land, get stoned, shoot things and have the government leave them alone. So, don’t sleep on P-tuck getting behind a medical marijuana bill, because hopes will be high that legalizing it wouldn’t be far behind.
