PEX Fest: Burning Man East?
Well, Popped may be on the ropes, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have some sweet summer festival vibes, Philadelphia. News just broke that The PEX Summer Festival is scheduled for July 3-5 and whoa, we are already getting a heavy, heavy paint-yourself-gold-and-take-loads-of-GHB vibe offa this one. Organized by true-school underground house music heads The Philadelphia Experiment, the PEX Fest is promising over 40 acts (live bands, DJs and other performers) on an as-yet-undisclosed 200-acre site said to be one hour south of Philadelphia. Lineup will be announced on April 1, but until then, we know for sure that PEX Fest will feature the following: “Olympic-Sized Swimming Pool w/ Daily Pool Parties, Dormitory Style Cabins w/ Showers & Toilets, Lectures & Workshops Including Yoga, Aerial Silk, Fire Staff, Poi, & Capoeira” and a “Sexploratorium.” And of course, not to be outdone by that other freakfest out west, a “4th of July Barbecue Before the Effigy Burn on Saturday.” OK, a “Sexploratorium” and lots of shit burning? Sign us up.

The location is not all that undisclosed. A couple artists have already said they will be in <a href=”http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-X6FEK77BX158I5VI/SWTZ-TD-OV4ITO5VJB7GNPY8″ Havre de Grace, Maryland for the festival.

Hi- long-time reader, first-time commenter… love your snarky view on all things Philly!
Thanks for the post on the PEX Festival. Your enthusiasm is great and I want to invite you as an honored guest to the event.
However, I want to make a few quick points.
There are a lot of misconceptions about Burning Man and the comunities (Like PEX) that have sprung up around it. It IS NOT a drugged sex fest. People who show up looking for that are ALWAYS disappointed. In my opinion, the concept of spending thousands of dollars to build temporary art in the middle of the desert is so foreign to most people (and writers) that they can’t get their head around it. For many sex, drugs and rock and roll (or rave) are intellectually more assessable and thus we get a seemingly endless barrage of write ups lambasting attendees as a hedonistic circle of anti-social heretics.
I am not one and neither are most of my comrades. The fact is Burning Man attendees are engaged, productive members of society. We work in a range of industries from education, to hi-tech to advertising to wall street (YES even wall street…). In fact Larry and Sergey (yeah those Google guys) attend often and hired their current CEO because he agreed to attended the event with them. The founder of Amazon.com and Tim Berners-Lee (yep the father of the internet) attend regularly.
Here’s an interesting quick read. http://bit.ly/3rZi4R
Thanks again for the great work you do and look forward to reading more snarky juice from you and your crew! Just wanted to jump in and expand your view of the Burning Man community.
OH, AND PLEASE DO TAKE ME UP ON MY OFFER TO JOIN US AT PEX, MY TREAT.

You may want to take “jAndrewStein” up on his offer. The “Rumor Mill” is already trying to guess ticket prices for this event which could easily be $150-$300 each.

Hey Ms. Fidget, I heard through the grapevine (the one adjacent to the “rumor mill”) that PEX is supposed to release some info on April 1!!! I’m so excited! Great music, Fire performers, amazing creative people, art and swimming all in one place? Looks like my friends and I will be celebrating freedom on Independence Day while dancing the night away. Oh, but hold the GHB thankyouverymuch, I’ve been to one of their fundraisers and the vibes alone were so high that there was no need for any of that crap.
I hope the Tix aren’t 300 though, that would be a bit steep for one weekend. $150 sure, but $300? I guess we’ll see … … …

If GHB stands for Giant Hug from a Bear, I’ll take two, please!
