This Weekend: Everybody Rest Easy, Philly Now Has Its Own R.E.M. Cover Band

FRIDAY:
>>> We caught Raphael Saadiq‘s “Live At Noon” concert on WXPN today and we have to say, it was probably the best “Live At Noon” they’ve ever done. Some tickets are left for his show at TLA tonight, so if phrases like “Funk Brothers,” “old school soul,” and “Sam Cooke” get you excited, get on that post haste.
>>> And we only mention it because A) it’ll be fun and B) because R.E.M. is now the worst authority in the world on the matter of what R.E.M. sounds like: Twisted Kites (video at right) is a Philly-based R.E.M. cover band containing members of The Capitol Years, Mitch Fiction & The Shits, and probably lots of other local bands. They play M Room with Stars Apart and The Knife and Fork Band.
>>> But we’re not offended at all if that’s not your thing. I think even Twisted Kites would tell you they’re ashamed that it’s theirs. So here’s some dance things: Massive blowout at Transit with Trouble & Bass, Pink Skull, 4AM DJs and so on. Or, Dutty Chutney — that bhangra/reggae soundclash thing — at Fluid; and Sorted!, paying tribute to Madchester, at The Barbary.

fogSATURDAY:
>>> FOGGY NOTION WITH THE LEMON TREASURES! We’re hella pumped for this, so please join us as we drop platters from the 1950s to the present, and the LT’s confetti-bomb the whole place. As always, The Fog is free, $1PBRs from 9-11, and hurty legs afterwards. At The Barbary.
>>> Two food events of note: Dirty Frank’s Chili Cook-Off and… ScrappleFest!
>>> And TuPhace’s B-Day show at the Green Line in West Philly!

SUNDAY:
>>> Sunny and 58! Grilling weather yet?
>>> And, as noted below Morrissey Afterparty — the Moz show at Academy of Music is totally sold out, sorry — at Khyber with The Sons & Heirs.
