Will Parenthood The TV Series Be The Next Chapter In Philly’s (Admittedly Slim) Catalog Of Suburban Mythmaking?

parenthoodWord comes today that NBC will begin shooting a pilot for a TV version of the 1989 Steve Martin film Parenthoodright here in Philly and the ‘burbs! No word on cast just yet, but original Parenthood director Ron Howard is listed as an executive producer. But back up a little: Wasn’t there already a Parenthood series? Why, yes, there was, back in 1990, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Thora Birch. But it only lasted a season. And given everything we know about how good old, episodic, plot-driven narrative is faring these days, who knows if the new one would ever actually make it to network TV at all. Still, though, it’d be nice to have Philly and its outlying areas romanticized as much at Thirtysomething did for us back in the day — a job that It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia isn’t exactly doing for us. It rules, of course, but it’s not exactly a plus in PR category, if you follow us here.
