This Evening: That Dirty, Dirty Boogie

dirtyboogie>>> For longer than you and I have been alive, there has been someone, somewhere complaining about how “safe” rock’n'roll — if not any form of popular music at all — has become. This is an easy parlor game to play, because you can almost always be right. Not a lot of virtue there, and worst of all, that kind of talk often obscures the very real, timeless appeals of music made at a time when dippity-doo was both something you wore and something you did. It’s a shame, then, that parties like The Dirty Boogie only come along every so often, and celebrate this music the right way — by playing it for people instead of crowing on and on about it. What am I talking about? Fucking great question: “It’s all about bad recordings of dirty beats, badly over blown saxophones and bad metaphors about doing the deed,” says the invite on the Book of Faces. “If you want to get the clap on the dance floor, then this party is for you.” Zeetar and The Butler spin all of this jive at 700 (Second & Fairmount) tonight, and if we may say so, good ol’ VD has never sounded so enticing. Praise the Lord and pass the penicillin.
