This Weekend: Mixin’ It Up Scrappin’ And Lovin’ Every Minute With You Guys
FRIDAY:
>>> There was a point, about 48 hours ago, where we were convinced that this week would not end without death, flames, and utter destruction. The fussing. The fighting. The bad news. The good news. Well, we were only right on one count: things are always fuh-LAY-ming here at Philebrity. To anyone we pissed off this week: We offer you bro hugs, as noted a few posts down. There’s something in the air. Anyway, you might want to go out dancing tonight, no? Shake off a bit of the old skin? We’ve got two for you: [click.] is back at Silk City — original recipe with just DJs Dave P and Julian S Process — and ?uestlove, spinning the 7th Anniversary Party at 32 Degrees. Can you believe it’s been seven long years of having a club like 32, that everyone can look down their noses at? The work you people do, 32. Here’s to seven more years of you guys keeping G Lounge at an arm’s length.
>>> Art peeps: Take note of yesterday’s post on Steven & Billy Dufala’s “Trophy,” opening tonight at Fleisher/Ollman.
>>> For the rockers: We still have the warm and fuzzies for Ben Kweller (pictured), at the TLA; and on the local side, there’s a pretty good homegrown noisy psych freakout going on at the M Room with Elevator Parade, Dark Horse & The Carousels, and newcomers Native Black, who we’d like to hear more from.
>>> And finally, for all you inky-types (and we do not mean the barrage of new Inquirer/Daily News employees foaming at the mouth and flocking to the comments), the Philadelphia Tattoo Arts Convention starts tonight and runs through the weekend.
SATURDAY:
>>> PHILLIES VS. RAYS: 1:05PM, Comcast Sportsnet. Goes good with bacon and Bloodys.
>>> Last night, we finally got around to watching the pilot episode of Fidelity Hall, the Philly-born-and-bred sitcom that, we imagine, is currently hawking its wares to any number of cable networks. While rough around the edges — and definitely bearing the irreverent markings of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia — it’s a real grower. We actually LOL’d more than once, and you might, too, at the screening party they’re having for it at Lounge 125 down South Street way.
>>> Also also: Glenn Kotche/Bang On A Can All Stars @ the Kimmel. Plus, Thievery Corporation at the Electric Factory.
>>> And on the off chance you still got some dance in you in the very last moments of February ’09, we do recommend Bleached Black @ Medusa, focusing on the disco disco this time around. Bless your sweet soul.
SUNDAY:
>>> Mellow out with Juana Molina at World Cafe Live: For next week, everything could be exactly the same thing all over again.
