Spend An Hour With This Site: Workshop Of The World

Just 40 columns? And no Sunday edition? We don’t think the Guild
is gonna be too happy about that, Mr. Tierney.

WORKSHOP OF THE WORLD—A Selective Guide to the Industrial Archeology of Philadelphia was originally published in 1990, and adapted for the web back in 2007. Somehow, we just stumbled onto it. And although we’re not even a third of the way through perusing it, we can tell you this: It’s totally fascinating. It also works well as an adjunct for those of us addicted to PhillyHistory.org, the online repository of City archive photos. We couldn’t help but notice the page dedicated to the early history of the Inquirer, and wonder: As it was in the beginning, might it also be in the end? In any case, we hope you didn’t have anything that really needed doing for the next hour or so. Enjoy, fellow Philly history buffs, enjoy.

If the Inquirer goes under, Philebrity should take over reports of histrionic performances.

“The Inquirer equals, in the publication of the latest news, the ability of its editorials, and its spicy correspondence, any of the leading New York journals.” Muck the Fets.
