This Weekend: Phoning It In
FRIDAY:
>>> If you stare into the moving parts of that Turnaround Vs. Immediate flyer at right long enough, you’re going to get all the answers you need: Nothing stops moving, if you stay in one place long enough you might start to feel nauseous, and weekend picks is pretty much the only post we’re doing today because the black circle told us work is for suckers. Barring the weekend picks part, let the vertigo-circle be your fortune cookie for the weekend. TVI is at Barbary, and you may be too, but this is deepest, darkest February: You are under no pressure to leave your house, much less soul clap… but you might feel better if you did.
>>> I’m not gonna lie: I can’t tell Rob Riggle apart from that guy on the “real” news who looks just like Rob Riggle. Sooner or later, this is gonna bite me in the ass. The real Rob Riggle is at TLA.
>>> Local rockist/head music flavor: Asteroid #4/Like a Fox/The Sounds of Kaleidoscope at Johnny Brenda’s. And, a programming note: M Ward/Vivian Girls is suuuper sold out.
SATURDAY:
>>> At this point we must implore you to check out the one and only Benjy Ferree both on this week’s Philebrity Player and in the flesh tomorrow night at M Room. Benjy’s glam stomp has been the one of the only things we’ve been thinking about when we think about positively live rock bands, ever since we peeped his new combo in November. And as a matter of fact, let’s give some tickets away for you close readers out there: Send an email to ihopeiwin[at]philebrity[dot]com with “FEAR WILL LEAVE MARKS ON YOUR BODY, YEAH!” by 4pm today, and we’ll see what we can do. Also on the bill: Tim Fite and Deleon.
>>> Daylight style: The 941 Theater’s regular craft fair is, this time around, the PBR Craft Fair, wherein crafters are encouraged to hawk PBR-inspired wares. I’m so hoping I can get one of those fishing hats made out of beer cans. Because nothing says “I do what I WANT, sucka” like one of those, you know? 3pm.
>>> Real talk: Louis C.K. is a real-deal prophet and seer of modern disappointment and lowered expactations. This should make you hate the guy, but instead, there is such an immense rage at his core that it’s totally protest comedy, whether dude knows it or not. Smash the state and go see him at Merriam Theater.
SUNDAY:
>>> Oscar!
