Cute Boy Alert: Adam Bonin

bonin_adam.jpgThe other day, when we were blowing a gasket over Jennifer Weiner, driven to sweats and hategoogling (it’s a real thing, Oprah’s gonna do a show about it), you know what felt like sweet calamine lotion on our burning skin? The realization that Weiner’s husband, Adam Bonin, seems like a totally righteous dude. Then we got all up in arms again, wondering what the shit a catch like this is doing with that one, which is probably something Adam gets a lot, even though he’d never admit it in one hundred million years. Nevertheless, Bonin is wracking up catch-points like it’s nobody’s business: He blogs at Politico (oooh!) and A List Of Things Thrown Five Minutes Ago, he’s lawyered (successfully!) on behalf bloggers’ rights before the Federal Election Commission, has defended victims’ families from 9/11 against insurance compaines, is a featured writer on Daily Kos, and it also seems that he invented kittens, and snow. So, uh, what gives? We have no idea. But as an attorney, Adam must surely know that 50% of all marriages end in divorce. And hey, it’s not like we’re going anywhere.

Can we change this to “cool dude alert?” I don’t think this guy fits the bill for “cute boy.”

Not to get all mom on your asses, but I’m a little uncomfortable with the excessive hateration on JW, mostly because so much of it is related to her size. Hate on her writing all you want, but I find the size hate unpleasant and unfunny.

@PD: Do you find it as unpleasant and unfunny as, say, a writer whose business plan is to basically pander to ladies of size in such a way as to tell them their health-threatening and emotionally disastrous ways are OK and that they’re really just victims of an uncaring, unfeeling society?
Because that’s the shit that I find truly offensive.

Honestly, I haven’t read anything she’s written, other than the blog excerpts here and the first chapter of Good in Bed. However, I have enough friends who struggle with their weight who would read your prior post as hating on women of size and not just JW in particular. So like I said, hate on her writing all you want, hate the central theme of that writing, but don’t appear to hate on women who struggle with their weight. And really? I don’t know any women of size (though they must exist) who are truly comfortable with their weight as a result of size-positive literature.

holy shit, JW is married to AdamB? that’s just…surprising. that’s why i read philebrity, for the education.

(but the JW post did seem to target her weight a bit gleefully. just how it read to me…)

Gotta go with Philebs on this one- pretty much nailed what’s “offensive” about JW. If she’s gonna peddle her thorough unpleasantness around in public (let alone as her career), she better be ready for whatever gets thrown back to stick, or, hey, get outta the sandbox. I think your “struggling friends” can tell the difference, and if not, maybe that’s part of the problem. And, after sticking up for this jerk, you “honestly haven’t read anything she’s written?” Oh, c’mon.
