Antony: Loves Fishtown, Has Good Advice, Makes Everybody Cry
You could have knocked us over with a feather (boa) last night when transgendered chanteuse Antony launched into a monologue mid-set last night at the Keswick Theater, praising the merits of Fishtown. It was downright bizarre, and we were already thrown off, having finally found what has eluded us for years — all the gay indie rockers in Philly. (Hi, guys!) But it seems Antony has been spending time in Fishtown lately — a close friend apparently just moved here — and he’s been walking up and down Front Street, peering into the windows of vacant storefronts and banks. (We’ll just let that image sit with you for a moment.) “I’m quite fond of ruins,” he said, also admitting that he, too, was rather taken with the Fishtown accent (see video from earlier today). Antony wrapped it all up with this, which I’m going to put in a headline size font, because it’s worth remembering:
So… enjoy your city! While it lasts.
Because pretty soon, it will just be all surveillance cameras… just like the rest of the world.
And then, a little while later, he played “Fistful Of Love” and we all cried like babies, wishing that someone, anyone, could love us as much as the person in this song. It was the best show we’d been to in ages.

I think I am going to start calling it “feeshtown” just like Antony. That makes the neighborhood much cozier. Ok, I’m off to find the girl with the orange (or was it blue) hair and rollerskates.

None of which is surprising. He’s an amazing talent.

It was orange.
Beautiful show. What a voice, and what a backing band.

Actually, I know a little something about the Unisys deal. Let’s just say those cameras are on hold for the time being.

This show was so quiet, it was creepy. Great backing band…the strings sounded incredible. The Fishtown comments were out of nowhere, but hilarious and sincere. Good show, good night!
