This Weekend: Lots And Lots Of These
FRIDAY:
>>> Having weekend picks at all this week is a total joke. The crop of worthy contenders for shows and DJ nights is so anemic or sold out that there’s really only one thing of note each night. These are the weekends where we’re like, damn, we shoulda scheduled a party ‘cos looking at all this crap, you could throw a simple Tough Shits show or Foggy Notion, and it would be better-attended than Altamont, just because NOTHING ELSE IS GOING ON. So here’s you’re big show tonight, Philadelphia: DeVotchka, the Slavic Coldplay, at World Cafe Live. Sara, don’t you dare put that Tritone show in the comments, because, come on, really; let everybody just have a nice house party for once.
>>> Invite me over to your house. I’ll bring gin.
>>> Go out after work and buy that Wavves album. I’m going to want to listen to it when I come over.
SATURDAY:
>>> OK, so Ira Glass at the Kimmel is just about sold out, save for a little something called “COMMUNITY RUSH” tickets. Here is how this works: For community rush, people can go to the box office at 5:30pm and purchase, tickets for $10 each. Limit ONE ticket per person. They need to get there early though–the line is always pretty long. If you still don’t get tickets, the First Person Arts‘ open storytelling competition on the timely theme “Broke,” hosted by Kids Corner/Sex Dwarf dynamo Robert Drake, is free in the lobby at 6:30PM. Good luck!
>>> On an entirely different note, Get The Led Out, the fucking greatest Led Zeppelin tribute band of all time, is headlining the Electric Factory. We have seen them (Dewey Beach, DE, summer of ‘05) and we can attest: They will rock your tits off.
>>> Now, everybody come over to MY house! And then get the fuck out by 1:30AM, or there’s gonna be weirdness between you and me. And I saw you steal those beers out of my fridge. Jerkface.
SUNDAY:
>>> Restaurant Week begins! And then goes on for two weeks. Stoked.
>>> Yo Majesty at M Room; Elf Power playing before, and then with, Vic Chesnutt at the North Star. Remember this: In a slouching economy where nothing matters and what if it did, you can always go out on a Sunday night. In fact, it’s good for you.

Also, you could come see me play a solo show at the Fire tomorrow night at the early show at The Fire, opening for Jason Cohn. You know, if you were so inclined.

There’s an article in the Wall Street Journal about restaurants basically giving away meals around the country. Philly gets a mention.
