Could This Be The Man To Finally Replace Lynne Abraham Dance Party?
Whether you love her, hate her, or just like adding the words “Dance Party” onto the end of her name, everyone has gotta admit: Lynne Abraham is a barnacle on this city. She’s been District Attorney since 1991, which frankly, is just too damn long for anyone to hold that kind of position whether they’re doing a good job or a bad job or you don’t even know because you just like adding the words “Dance Party” onto the end of her name. Ahem. So reintroduce yourself to Seth Williams (pictured). Williams, of course, ran against Abraham in ‘05 and lost; this time, however, Abraham has finally decided to leave the office — she won’t be running in ‘09. So that leaves it all wide open, right? Well, hold up a minute. Even tho Williams, who served as Inspector General under John Street, has contended before and currently seems to be the only person actually in the race, he’s not the only name being tossed around. One wonkish source we spoke with also pointed out that Danny McCaffery, Danny McElhatton and Brian Grady are also rumored to be pondering throwing their hats in (you know, if Riverdance auditions don’t work out). But here’s the weird thing about the Williams ‘09 run: Why would Young Philly Politics be backing a guy who served as the ethics watchdog for the Street administration, which was clearly one of the most corrupt (and frankly, just weird and fucked) in recent city history? We got an invite on the Face for a fundraiser YPP is throwing for Williams at the Khyber, and the more we dig around on Williams, the more we feel like, what do they know that we don’t? To be fair, we’re sure it’s a lot. Mostly though, we’re just broken up because “Seth Williams Dance Party” doesn’t sound nearly as good.
