Hey, remember all of those awesome Technologicology columns by Brian James Kirk we ran last year and the year before? They were great. Really. If you never read them, you should go back and check out BJK’s pretty much groundbreaking work in uncovering Philly’s still-kinda-nascent geek/DIY scene — your Alex Hillmans, your P’unk Aves, your MakePhillys and IgnitePhillys, the whole gang. OR you could go for the year-later, buzzword-obsessed, fairly shit-tastic Steven Wells version that graces the cover of today’s Philadelphia Weekly. While we certainly don’t begrudge this scene any press — Hillman’s assertion in the piece that Philly geeks are now more rockstar than the Philly music scene (something we’ve been meaning to touch on for a while now) — the whole article had an uncanny ring of familiarity to it. Kind of like that time PW discovered hipsters. (That was awesome.) Now, Wells, we know you’re reading this, and this is the part where you usually get to ejaculate click on the linkback to your own piece, but not this time buddy. There’s no happy ending here. In fact, watch this!
Hey! New PW editor Adamma Ince! The entire city fucking HATES Steven Wells and he has no reliable reader base whatsoever, unless you count the trainwreck-Valania effect. (Check the comments on any Steven Wells post we’ve ever made if you don’t believe me.) If you really wanna turn over a new leaf, how about just going to the source: Fire Wells and hire Brian James Kirk. He’s on the ground level, he didn’t ruin the NME, and unlike your present staffer, we’re pretty sure he can write something that doesn’t make us all wanna swallow our own fists.
