Twitter: Navelgazing Can Be Useful

>>> For those of you who are stuck in 2003 and are unfamiliar with the concept, Twitter is a free micro-blogging service. You can post quick snips of thoughts limited to 140 characters. Like a text message, brevity is king. And, for those of us who have invited twitter into our lives, we can relate to the overwhelming urge to document and disseminate any fleeting thought. Well, Twitter has been in the news lately as one plane crash survivor sent out a tweet immediately after his rescue. His tweet: “Holy fucking shit I wasbjust [sic] in a plane crash!” Journalists are always talking about ways to break stories and they seem surprised that Twitter is emerging as a useful tool. But, as us twitterers know, it is just another way we interact with one another and share information. So, twitter, yeah. It’s in the news.
>>> Foodies who love trivia should embrace Foodimentary with open keyboards. You will be both amused and delighted with their constant stream of quizes, quotes, and food facts. A recent tweet: “Food~Fact:One of the earliest references we have to British ‘chips’ (French Fries) is in Charles Dickens’ ‘Tale of Two Cities’ (1859).” Innnnteresting. Or peep this one, “Food~Quiz: How did ‘bounceberries’ get their name, & what is their more common name? ~Feel free to reply!~ Just guess, thats the fun part!” It’s so charming that we don’t even care that they overuse exclamation points.
>>> But, our favorite twitterer of all-time has to be Levar Burton. One-part Chuck Norris and one-part Tracy Morgan with a dash of D&D nerd, he brings the crazy: “The only thing more delicious than a ham and cheese melt with horseradish mayo is Gates McFadden’s tears.” Um, wow.
