City To Institute Pay-To-PissParade Policy For Mummers?
Remember last year when we had to go and tell all the transplant artists that even when you are participating in an inherently racist farce/tradition ironically, you’re still participating in in an inherently racist farce/tradition? That was fun. Especially when a bunch of Space 1026-ers showed up in the comments and began whining about how, “Ooooh, no, it’s NOT ironic, we SWEAR!” As if anyone in our generation can even tell the fucking difference anymore. Anyway, it’s looking like we may not get to do the same thing again this year (even though we kind of just did, score!) because THE MUMMERS PARADE IS ON THE ROPES! The City and the Mummers have been in talks in which the City is asking the Mummers to pick up any parade costs over $300K, knowing full well that it takes about that just to get rid of the piss smell alone. Talks resumed a few minutes ago, at 12:30pm. Our gut feeling, though, is that the Mums will pay through the teeth to keep this tradition alive, and then, in unmixed company, blame it on a black mayor forever and ever, amen. So it goes. Thanks for the dollars, paintey-face drunk guys!

Not for nothing, but the parade might be better if it returns to its roots and is confined to 2nd Street and other South Philly environs. It’d be all about keeping it real, yo.

as much as i hear both sides, i gotta agree with chuck63 … toss the judge stands at Washington (and have them start deep on South Broad – march up to Washington – then cut down Washington to 2nd (where the Mummers Museum is located), turning on Two Street for the ‘real’ parade.
