as a gay myself, i’m all for movements and political gestures, but i agree – this idea was not well-thought out. If the point is to show where our gay dollars go, that’s understandable, but this idea was so poorly thought out, i did not take part. i know TONS of gays, naturally, and i don’t think i know any who called out ‘gay’ today.

additionally i work for the govt, and no one would notice if i took off today. And if i called out “gay,” my manager would say “what does that even mean bobby? we know you’re gay; so is that sick time or vacation time? enjoy your day!”

This made zero sense to me because if you have an employer supportive enough not to be seriously pissed about you “calling in gay” you’re not teaching them anything they don’t already know.

On the flip side, the people who really need to learn what gay people contribute to society are the ones likely to fire you for abusing your sick time.

umm…i called in sick today, will people now assume I’m gay? I mean, even if I am gay i don’t want people making assumptions about me, that’s just rude.
