Readers Write: This Weekend, Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, And You Probably Shouldn’t Go Out, Either

The annual Army vs. Navy football game is taking place Saturday 6 December in Philadelphia. This weekend your faithful readers should expect an influx of bellicose automatons ready to fight at the drop of a sailor’s cap. I predict the Plough and the Stars, Public House, Irish Pub, Kildare’s et al will be filled to the gilles with young men and women afraid to question their own sexuality, much less authority. All of this building up to the ultimate war allegory, a gridiron match that no one (outside of the armed services and their fanboys) actually cares about. Pitchers and catchers report when, anyone?

Aww, hey guy! Don’t be so glum! Just think of it this way: Craigslist is gonna do some brisk business!

I imagine that the only way that the writer has ever served his country has been by Rawking. I’d rather watch this game than the Eagles vs. the mighty Bengals, Penn vs. Columbia, or Temple vs. some school in Ohio. Also if you are a bartender, the old timers (at the Hotels, not the Irish joints) are good customers. They have lots of money, are good tippers and drink very easy drinks, like Gin and Tonics. I’d welcome them every weekkend.

People who are afraid of sports and the military need to get more exercise….

Wow. So, can we assume that this person has absolutely NO friends or family who have served? Pretty privileged, sheltered life.

Putting aside the commentator’s ignorance, the Philadelphia should work on having the game played here each and every year. Most fans are older, stay the night and eat at fancy restaurants. I’d love to see the cost benefit ratio comparison between the Army-Navy game and, say, the Phillies victory parade.

Army-Navy brings big bucks to the city. For kicks check out the military owned corporate jets that will fly in for the game. PHL gets most but PNE will still be jamming.

This is the best, if not only night to go to Woody’s and/or Sisters; cause these guys and gals don’t know where else to go. Get dolled up in your camo-chic or vintage bought uniforms and you are sure to get a grope on the dance floor if not a hot night out serving your country!

The Army/Navy game brings in $25+ million to Philadelphia. The city should do a lot more to keep it here every year.
