Phashionista: Get ‘Em Before Urban, Erm, “Appropriates” Them

· Manayunk has a new fashion print and design company, Lobo Mau. That’s “Big Bad Wolf” in Portugese. It’s a small group of designers headed by Nicole Haddadand Renata Certo-Ware, working with a new method of textile printing with digital ink-jet printers. The process allows for an unlimited array of colors to be used in their designs, as opposed to the limits of traditional screenprinting and avoids the pollutants of ink run-off. They’re hosting a gallery launch party December 13 in Manayunk with champagne and hors d’oeuvres.

· A new novelty t-shirt collection from Phreedom, “Take Flight to the Free World,” is premiering at the JKarma Boutique on December 3. The images of the collection are “rooted in symbols and concepts of what it means to be free… from the use of soldiers to superheroes, landmarks and military bases, from familiar but altered images of the civil rights movements of the sixties and seventies, to being eco friendly.” In the meantime, you can scope some of the designs at here; at right, as well.
