Would You All Please Rise For Secretary Of Energy (Or Transportation) Edward G. Rendell
The NY Times has a little thingy today on how, even though he probably originally thought it would be in the service of Hillary Clinton or not at all, Ed Rendell’s name is on the docket for Barack Obama’s ongoing cabinet-position bonanza. The listicle is basically a quick primer on who the hell Ed is for their readers west of Pittsburgh, but also pleads his case for the Energy or Transpo jobs:
Would bring to the job: Experience as elected leader of a large state (governor of Pennsylvania) and large city (former mayor of Philadelphia); expertise on energy, transportation, education and manufacturing issues; broad knowledge of politics and personalities; instinctive feel for the concerns of urban, blue-collar and lower-income voters.
But there’s some stuff missing here. Eddie would also bring: Foot-long hoagies, a couple of dirty jokes about said footlong hoagies, probably a goomah or two, and so on. We’re thinking, “Yes. The Obama edition of The West Wing could use exactly this.”
NYT: Eddie Goes To Washington?

I don’t see this happening. Maybe in ‘12 or during a ‘10 post off term election cabinet shuffle (especially for something like DOE or DOT … then you got the problem of current nominees thinking, why do I want this job if big Ed’s coming in two years?). Rendell’s name has been consistently floating, but he was saying he wasn’t interested in a post at this point. That was all before Knoll’s passing leaving Scarnati in the Gov slot if Rendell leaves. This looks more like the NYT’s dream team rather than a record of people who are having substantive conversations with the transition team. Just shows you the Times is politically illiterate when it comes to PA, among other places. Remember they were predicting a squeaker in this state similar to what NC went through.

See article below. Sucessor would be a republican. Not going to happen. Plus the food in DC sucks.

I’m all for this, so long as Fast Eddie brings down some Sarcone’s and decent cold cuts to this god-forsaken city.
