Sources Confirm: Tim Whitaker Out At Philadelphia Weekly, Village Voice Media Alum Taking The Helm

pvJust a quick note to follow-up: Sources are now confirming for us our earlier blind item, and we can now tell you that Tim Whitaker of Philadelphia Weekly, is out of his longtime post as editor of that paper. Regular readers of this site will know that we’ve frequently blamed Whitaker for pretty much everything that is wrong with PW. And from what we hear, we are not alone. For over a year now, we’ve been hearing off-the-record reports of attempted staff mutinies from PW staff who simply could no longer abide Whitaker’s limp reign at the paper, which seemed to repeatedly sap the will of all who ever put themselves on the line to improve the perpetual second-banana weekly. (And we know of what we speak here: Without Whitaker, there would have never been a Philebrity. So he must not be all bad, right?) But in the end, we suspect that new COO/Voice Media alum George P. Troyano might have had something to do with the shakeup also. Last we heard, PW brass were planning on introducing Whitaker’s successor — rumored to be another Voice alum — at 2pm today. We’ll be following up on this as news warrants.
