Philebrity Wonders: Come November 5, Will Inner City Pressure Make Us All Wanna Enter A Suicide Pact?

We were talking in the office last week about these crazy heightened emotional times we’re living in right now: For one, the Presidential Election has assumed all the properties of a proper drug addiction — it induces mood swings, requires constant attention, and often feels like the only thing going on in the world. Especially here in Philadelphia, where at times it still feels like a palpable high still hanging around from the fumes of Michael Nutter‘s election a year ago. Whether we realize it or not, for a lot of us, the Barack Obama campaign seems like a larger continuation of the line of progressive politics and transparency that we first got hooked on with Nutter. But then, add in the Phillies. The Phillies thing is HUGE. And likewise, there is everything that goes with it: The drinking, the elation, the weeping, the winning, the losing. Where will it all end? Between Obama and the Phils, come November 5, whatever the outcomes of either contest, how will anything feel like it matters after all of this? Work through the scenarios: Phils lose, Obama wins. Phils win, Obama loses. Phils lose, Obama loses. Phils win, Obama wins. Each and every one of those seems absolutely fucking crazy and impossible. But one of them WILL happen. Our question is, well, what the hell will happen after that? A crushing wave of civic depression? Or will the high continue? And we repeat: After this, how will anything ever matter again?

for me and many other people i know, this spring/summer was a series of super shitty events. maybe that was cosmic preparation for a chain of seriously awesome events. i’ll believe in that until i’m wrong.

Please post as many videos of craziness around town as you can find in the next two weeks.

sorry to say but i don’t really give a hoot about the phils, however, if they win i’ll be happy for those in this city who do care. Cause after all, i love this town. the scenario that will send me into a deep depression, followed by a shame spiral of abusive and or obsessive self violence is if Obama loses. Even when this country is on the shit path to hell the idiots of this country can’t agree on how to make a one eighty. God help us all, and i don’t believe god exists.

The Phillies winning the October Classic would be phenomenal, but above all, this country — and arguably, the world — needs an Obama win in two weeks. Goddamnit, four more years of an administration beholden to corporate fat cats, the extremist right, and racists would continue our country’s downward spiral back to the Dark Ages! Well, that and Reality TV shows, but you guys get my point . . .
