Confirmation: Tierney Is A Putz

tierneyFormer Inky columnist Tom Ferrick wrote on WHYY’s “It’s Our City” blog today that sources in that paper’s editorial board tell him that – prepare to be shocked – Tierney did indeed demand they publish their dissenting endorsement of McCain. Normal practice, Ferrick says, is for the board to examine candidates and when it comes down to it, there’s a single endorsement:

I sat on the editorial board of the paper briefly and know that on big issues – such as endorsements – the debate can be heated. Even in 2007, when the majority of the board favored Michael Nutter for mayor, there was a long discussion about all of the candidates – and several members wanted to endorse someone else.

But, once the vote is taken, the majority rules (though a few kind words about the loser can often appear in the endorsement.)

Not so this time. We’re starting a pool on what foolhardy thing Brian Tierney can do next to further undermine what little trust readers have left in his papers. Call for a pogrom? Start staffing the copy desk with actual slaves? Continue consolidating editorial functions? Hire Sweeney to run Philly.com?
