This Weekend: Actual Fall

FRIDAY:
>>> I’m coming out and saying it: This one actually feels like officially the first Friday night of Actual Fall: The temperature has finally dropped for good, I think, to corduroy levels, there’s a bunch of great local shows going on tonight, and everybody is in a VERY GOOD MOOD BECAUSE THE PHILLIES ARE IN THE WORLD SERIES AND BARACK OBAMA IS WAY WAY UP IN THE POLLS AND SHIT IS LOOKING GOOD FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER. So really, anything you do is gonna make you feel like a million bucks. If you like, you can stop reading picks now and just get out there and rock it, Chester!
>>> But about those local shows: We mentioned yesterday “For Jack – A Tribute to the Life and Music of Christopher Tucker,” and we’d like to re-iterate it here — it’s gonna be a night to remember: The Asteroid #4 just got back from Europe, Nico Dominguez is debuting a new Orphan Family video, The Sky Drops pretty much rule, and Sweeney is doing some Laurie Anderson/Human League thing that will probably be VERY EMBARASSING. You need to be here.
>>> OK, no more nepotism, we promise: The Spinto Band play their record release for Moonwink with Frightened Rabbit and The Swims at First Unitarian Church. Meanwhile, the winners of the 2008 PhillyCarShare PhillySoundClash, East Hundred (pictured), open up a bill with Citay and National Eye’s Gianmarco Cilli at JB’s. Though the “contest winner” thing could throw you off if you hate things like winning, keep an eye on East Hundred. They could be huge.
>>> And finally, The Turnaround Versus Immediate with DJ Greggg Foreman is back the Barbary. Damn.

SATURDAY:

Kinda dying to go to a party like this. If you’re having one, get at us.

SUNDAY:
>>> I am loving how the weekend is totally front-loaded. So pick any three of these: Mad Men. Daytime at the Barbary with staff DJs. Tequila Sunrise Records. Tria. Make a video like this and send it to us. Ravi Shankar. Strong, strong coffee. This is the calm before the storm. Enjoy it.
