Local Vegetarian’s Playoff Experience Nearly Ruined By Taco Bell Triple Steak Doppelganger

Philly sports fans generally don’t get more devoted than our friend Dryw Scully; a lifelong Philly resident, Scully is an enthusiastic fan of both the Phillies and the Eagles, and is pretty much the go-to guy in our circle for all things Philly sports. But as most of us were enjoying the playoffs unperturbed, for Dryw, the games approached a kind of slow torment. See, during each game, a new commercial for Taco Bell aired nearly constantly, and it just so happened to feature an actor who bore an uncanny resemblance to Scully. (At left, is Scully; at right, a still from the actor in the ad.) “At first,” he says, “it was just you guys [who noticed the resemblance].” But as the NCLS wore on, says Scully, the commercial seemed to have reached more and more people — people who knew Dryw. (”But Dryw doesn’t even EAT steak!,” many noted, as Scully has been a dedicated vegetarian for years.) “By the last game, every time it aired, my phone started ringing,” he says. With the Phils kicking off the World Series next Wednesday, there could be no end in sight for Scully’s torment — because chances are, his Triple-Steak Burrito doppelganger will be there as well.
