Advance Warning: For Jack – A Tribute to the Life and Music of Christopher Tucker

jackYou may have noticed the ads we’ve been running this week for an event tomorrow night called “For Jack – A Tribute to the Life and Music of Christopher Tucker.” And regular readers of this site will remember that over the summer, we lost our great friend and sometime contributor and awesome musician Christopher Tucker. It’s an understatement to say that Christopher’s death affected a wide swath of people, across many states, scenes and circles, but in the months since he’s passed, it’s probably safe to say that no one has been affected more deeply and immediately than Chris’ family. So tomorrow night’s benefit at the North Star Bar is for them — and specifically, Chris’ son Jackson Tucker, who is, I do not hesitate to tell you, a really awesome kid and every bit his father’s son. But if we know one thing, we know that Christopher would not have wanted a maudlin parade as any part of any remembrance of him, so with that in mind, a bunch of his friends have put together a pretty great bill tomorrow night, one worth checking out whether you knew Tucker or not. Gathered on one bill are: Asteroid #4, the long-running Psychedelphia band; Sunshine Recorder, featuring Chris Coello from Bottom of the Hudson and The Cobbs; the brilliant Delaware post-shoegaze band The Sky Drops; the twangy folk of Blood Feathers; our esteemed editor Joey Sweeney, who hasn’t played a gig in forever; and last but certainly not least, Fleetwood Mike the all-Fleetwood Mac electronic-ish cover band featuring members of Audible, who pretty much need to be seen to be believed. Here’s a sample.

Fleetwood Mike open the bill tomorrow at 9pm sharp. If you ever knew Christopher — or just would like to tip your hat to a dearly departed fellow traveller in music and letters — please come on down. We’d love to see you.
