Philebrity Wonders: Just What Do You Have To Do To Your S.O. To Have 26 Cop Cars At A Domestic Disturbance?

A reader sent this photo in last week, and we’ve been thinking about it — and what the reader had to say — ever since:

Please enjoy the attached photo that I took of the TWENTY SIX squad cars that showed up to a domestic disturbance call at 30th and Girard–you’d think they’d have figured out a better system of responding to calls by now. Anyway, I thought of you. I was sitting out on the deck and I heard some yelling at the shady bar next door (which has already been shut down once this year for a shooting), but I was too lazy to get up to see what was going on until I heard sirens coming from all directions. I think someone had pulled a gun during the fight but nonetheless…26 squad cars are NEVER necessary. Not really sure how they sorted the whole thing out.

It’s comforting….but also confusing. Maybe all the cops race to the domestic disturbance calls to avoid going to the legitimate crimes?

We couldn’t have really said it better ourselves. Since Ramsey came in, and the rash of unfortunate officer killings that have happened over the last year, are the Philly PD really this much on the ball? Or is this paranoid oversaturation? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, whoa, that’s a lot of cop cars.

It should make for an interesting ballet of cop cars when they try to leave that clusterfuck.

Speaking of clusterfucks did anyone see that horrific motorcycle accident Sunday at 2nd and Callowhill? Dude was racing his bike on 95 and went flying off the overpass and bounced across Callowhill, landing on the sidewalk on the south side of the street. He looked very dead.

This picture was taken through my window by the person who sent this in. I posted an entry about it on my blog as well (shameless plug) http://walkonback.blogspot.com

It was hilarious to see the cops all try to leave, the road was too narrow for them to turn around so they just had to reverse and hope no one was coming. I’m pretty sure they closed down Girard for a couple minutes just so the cars could exit.

This was also around the exact time Bruce was going on over on the Parkway, so I’m guessing these cops were just raring to go.

Apparently the disturbance was caused by a kid racing around on a dirtbike. We heard gunshots later that night, which I believe were unrelated.

Wow…dirtbikes around 17th and Washington (my hood) don’t even register on the cops’ radar. Word is they’re told not to pursue in case of injuries.

Did anyone see the flipped minivan beneath the El at Girard and Front yesterday afternoon? Amazing.

while 26 cop cars is excessive, since when is a domestic disturbance not a legitimate crime??? do you have the police report describing how illegitimate it was?

  9. Grapesoda Says:

So this is where all the police are in this city.
