PSA: Come One, Come All To Saturday’s Big Sarah Palin Protest

If you enjoy a good protest now and then—

Sarah Palin will be in Philadelphia on Saturday, October 11. She will be doing a fundraiser at the Park Hyatt At The Bellevue, 19th Floor, 200 South Broad Street.

Last week, with only 5 hours notice, we turned out hundreds to protest the Bush/McCain/Palin policies. See the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bloXWsV1-w.

Let’s see what we can do this time with a week’s notice. The Palin event starts at 4:30 PM. We should plan on arriving around 3:00.

Spread the word widely.

Anyone interested can join ACT UP Philadelphia (the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) for our:

THOUSAND PALIN MARCH FOR MORE AIDS!

    “Make war not love”

    Sat, Oct 11th
    The Bellevue Hotel
    200 S. Broad Street
    3:30pm

Come dressed in your best Palin outfit. Bring your field-dressed moose. Sport your lipstick and hockey jersey. Put your hair up in a bun and put on some fancy glasses. We’ll bring the Palin masks, you bring your interpretation of what Sarah Palin looks like. We’re gathering outside the fundraiser to show Sarah Palin as she really is – a far-right wing ultra-conservative governor who believes abstinence-only works (except for her own family), the profits of big corporations should be protected more than the lives of millions, and our future should be entrusted to the guys who got us into this mess. Gosh darn it, she sure is one of us!

Sponsored by ACT UP Philadelphia, which is commemorating its 20th anniversary as the nation’s largest volunteer-run AIDS activist group led by people living with HIV.

Come on people, show some class. Sarah Palin does a fine job making a fool of herself on her own. Don’t take the spotlight off that. We always do this. The moment we get an inch ahead we look like a bunch of vultures picking at the carcas. As much as I disagree with Republicans, they sure know when to step aside and let us destroy ourselves. You don’t beat the other team by setting its field on fire, and you don’t win elections by silencing your opponent’s voice. This is nothing but an exercise in poor sportsmanship. Politics are about debate and disagreement and nothing is gained by throwing an organized temper tantrum just because you disagree with someone. We’re supposed to be the party of intellects. Act like it.

we’re not silencing them, we’re criticizing bad policies.

  4. C. The Impaler Says:

Yeah, rkthecasbah, ACT UP’s tactics have never worked … please, where have you been for the past 20 years? This started when a local sports venue impressario wanted to go above and beyond his maxed out donation ability and give his ticket’s darling a free photo op. This is not a debate, this is a media moment, and there’s nothing wrong with “the other side” creating a more interesting counterpoint to the manufactured story the media would have to otherwise run with.

Maybe if you had heard of ACT UP’s history as accomplished activists, you’d “get it.”

  5. rkthecasbah Says:

Whether I “get it” or not, I’m a voter, as is everyone who witnessed the protest or not. When you make a public comment about one candidate, you inadvertently represent the other, and in doing so have a responsibilty to exercise a certain amount of integrity. I’ll admit Saturday’s display was very entertaining, but it didn’t swing any votes.
