Pardon us for this brief lesson in indie history, but, you know, in this era where bands like The Smiths and Echo & The Bunnymen are nearing Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame status, it’s a dirty rotten shame that more kids are not being told about The Wedding Present. Back in the day, singer/guitarist David Gedge’s crazyfast strum inspired legions of indie bands, and in fact, Gedge was just as responsible as anyone else for all the best parts of the Twee Nation as anybody else. Not exactly something you’d brag about at a party, but still. Since ‘04, Gedge has humbly resurrected The Wedding Present (basically acknowledging that Cinerama was kind of bunk in concept) and this Friday, the group (which is basically a refreshed Cinerama lineup playing the rock) plays the North Star with The Jealous Girlfriends and Brown Recluse Sings.
