Turns Out, The Wife-Beating Angry Freak On The Team Can Really Come In Handy When It’s Time To Psych Somebody Out

Make no mistake: The raw, unfettered assholishness of Brett Myers is the stuff of legend. For years now, it’s made him, in many ways, our very worst Phillie, even as his pitching has taken the team to new heights (and, occasionally, lows). But for a moment, we need to throw all that aside — the violence, the anger, the dipshitness — and marvel and give props for something that happened last night: In what should have been an easy strikeout for Brewers pitcher CC Sabathia, Myers managed to get himself walked after nine pitches. How? By being a sheer, psychotic hambone. Seriously. It was some psychout shit straight outta Major League or The Big Lebowski. Myers paraded around like a chicken. Wagged his bat like a hornswaggling cartoon character. Contorted his face to Sling Blade proportions. It was a fucking sideshow, but holy hell, it worked. Myers got walked. And somewhere in all this, Sabathia lost his nerve completely, ultimately giving up five runs and a pretty easy victory to the Phils. The 700 Level has play-by-play and video, but really, we just wanted to fess up and say: Brett Myers, you are still a raging asshole, but last night, you used your powers for good. And it was the freakiest, funniest thing we’ve ever seen.

That inning and specifically that at bat may have been one of the best moments in philly sports for quite awhile.
For a pitcher to be able to get on base successfully… well done.
And it really changed the entire dynamic of the game, and quite possibly, the entire series.
    Good stuff.

The smile on Victorino’s face in this photo makes up for all of Myers’ douchebaggery.
