Rumblings: Karmic Gridlock

>>> In case you’ve been living under a rock, keeping an eye on the Russians that you can see from your house in Alaska, you probably already that Milton Street got 30 months for tax evasion. Which is actually a misnomer, because what he really got 30 months for was being a crazy asshole. It just so happened that the tax charge was the only one that stuck. And sure, you could debate for hours how Milton shouldn’t go to jail – and even, shockingly, BE RIGHT — but comeuppance is a bitch, and there’s just no arguing with that at all. And if this is not some kind of a lesson in karma, nothing is. [AP/PW]
>>> Meanwhile, Boy Scouts vs. the City of Philadelphia is now officially a First Amendment suit, with both sides saying, “EXACTLY! See?” Ruh-roh. [Inky]
>>> And lastly, this just in: Citigroup buys out Wachovia. Which is actually great news, because, let’s face it, Wachovia fucking sucked, were bloodsucking leeches (who apparently were not even very good at bloodsucking or leeching, if this story is to be believed), and the sooner we scrub their name from this fair city, the better off we will all be. And we all shine on, like the moon, and the stars and the sun, on and on and on and on… [PBJ]

Far be it from me to shit upon some good ol’ fashioned schadenfreude…

However, Citigroup (as well as Bank of America and JP Morgan) has entirely too much wealth/power. The whole financial crisis is scary in itself – but the fire sale of smaller-competitor assets to the industry’s behemoths just prior to the prospective 700bil-bailout concerns me greatly. Watch as the oilmen pass the torch to the financial industry leaders – “the Best Democracy that Money Can Buy.” (Greg Palast has a book by that name). You could smell it when Obama nominated Biden. Biden played an integral role in the sucess of the 2005 bankruptcy bill:
