Department Of Community Organizing: Regarding The Feasibility Of Giving Sarah Palin A Warm Philly Welcome Tonight

Okay, so, we’ve gotten a bunch of mail this morning from people wanting to know just what exactly is going on with this Sarah Palin at the Irish Pub thing, whether or not there is an official protest happening, and so on. So how about we do this: We tell you what we know, and you tell us what you know. Here goes:
· In case you haven’t seen the news in the last eight minutes, the debate is indeed happening.
· And with that comes official confirmation that Palin will indeed be watching the debate at Irish Pub.
· Protest/gawking-wise, our sources tell us that Walnut Street in the area around the Irish Pub will likely be closed to traffic, and if not, some form of likewise clusterfucked.
· And as for an official protest of Palin/her batshit policies/the McCain campaign/The Age Of American Unreason, we know of none. But if you do, or are looking to get one together, by all means, feel free to use the comments below.

The article about Palin being at Irish Pub says she will be leaving the douche bar by 8:30pm. Debate starts at 9pm. Looks like it is just a private event for 1.5 hours. Closed to the public. Not like she’ll be hanging at the end of the bar, looking up at the TV.

I’m definitely not voting for McCain/Palin, but protesting is so ugh.

The Metro has a pros/cons thing about her being there. The pro was that she’d be the best looking woman there.

Protesting is not ugh. It’s a pretty effective way to bring attention to an issue that’s important to you.

Palin is completely out of her depth and it’s terrifying to think that she could be the president of the US in the near future. I don’t think that waiting around until election day to push the button for Obama can fully demonstrate how strongly people feel about this.

  4. John Lightstone Says:

“but protesting is so ugh.” Yup, free speech just suck-diddly-ucks.

That’s funny…somebody who chose the tag “towncrier” thinks “protesting is so ugh”…awesome.

  6. expat attack Says:

Will Philebrity be organizing a protest/covering the mayhem?

  7. tips Says:

@ Expat: If you consider drinking cheap domestic beer in Fishtown and shouting rude things at the television all night an act of protest, then, yes. Power to the people right on.
As for coverage, we’re still working on it.

  8. Philly Chit Chat Says:

I’ll be taking photos of all the Ugh

  9. expat attack Says:

    @tips
God, I never realized how much I protest then…I’m practically Cindy Sheehan by that measurement.

“If you consider drinking cheap domestic beer in Fishtown and shouting rude things at the television all night an act of protest”.

Sounds more like watching the Phillies . . . .

  11. C. The Impaler Says:

John, sometimes that is an act of protest.

@ the protesters looking for direction, I’m pretty sure if you show up somewhere in the vicinity of the Irish Pub, you’ll be able to find enough like-minded people to do something. Some might even have paraphenalia. Not that I know what’s what or anything … but I don’t think the internet is entirely necessary to pull this off today.
