Phashionista: (Needle)Point And Shoot
· Crafties, Etsy-ers, silkscreeners, designers and their fans might all want to mark their calendars for Sunday, October 19: That’s when the Philadelphia Sewing Collective presents Swap-O-Rama-Rama Philadelphia at Old Pine Community Center. Billed as “a recycled DIY extravaganza,” SORR is a hybrid of swap meet, made to order DIY jam, and good old craft fair. Tons more info at their site. [SORRPhilly]
· You’ve probably heard of jewelry designer Melani Von Alexandria before; she’s gotten tons of press for her pieces made of melted-down glocks and other guns confiscated from the street. This Saturday at the The Independence Visitors Center, she’ll be debuting her new line, “SUPERWOMAN,” featuring chunky jewelry fashioned from melted guns confiscated by Philadelphia sheriff deputies. Who will be on hand to be honored and (we’re guessing) walk home with some pieces? Lisa Nutter and Joan Shepp, among others. [melanivonalexandria]
